There are a number of important considerations to make when starting a design project, these can be boiled down into three constituent parts:
- What do the customers need?
- How do we meet the legal product requirements?
- What makes this product sufficiently unique?
It is essential therefore to have a good understanding of any product standards which apply to the product(s) and then use these standards with the customer requirements and an understanding of any competitor products to get a good overview highlight of the product(s) which can then be presented back to customers and, where neccessary, approvals bodies. This gives a good, informed starting point to the development project without spending money developing products which won’t meet the customer needs, can’t achieve compliance or are too similar to the competition.
This is a creative and technical process which we love, and can guide you through to the presentation and the subsequent full requirement specification stage.
