Raspberry Pi Design Partners - Celebrating Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W Launch

We are proud to announce that we are officially a Raspberry Pi Design Partner. And this week we are celebrating the launch of the new Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W

Raspberry Pi launched their design partner programme to encourage innovation using their range of modules and devices to accelerate the development of innovative products

What does this mean for you?

Projects for Raspberry Pi.

We provide electronics design expertise which extends to using Raspberry Pi devices as part of your new product development process. If you are looking to use the technology for your electronics design projects get in touch with our award-winning team.

Our team has worked with Raspberry Pis in numerous different product, proof of concept and test applications.  We can work with you to establish the correct device for your application and to then build an electronics and software solution around it.

Through our Raspberry Pi Design Partner status we have proven that, as a team, we can provide the skills and expertise needed to deliver robust solutions incorporating Raspberry Pi devices.

What is a Raspberry Pi?

The original Raspberry Pi was “a low cost, credit card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard or mouse”. These small devices offer multiple capabilities and allows new products to carry out tasks like a desktop computer, from playing high-definition video, to surfing the web and word processing. The devices are great for interacting with the outside world and has grown into a high popularity status in electronic product development particularly in recent years. There have been several iterations of Raspberry Pi to increase processing power, connectivity and keep them up to date.

The core functionality has also been developed into a module known as a compute module.  This allows greater flexibility and choice over the interfaces which are used and helps achieve a lower cost, smaller size, custom solution.

They have been used on everything from “music machines and parent detectors to weather stations and tweeting birdhouses with infra-red cameras.”

More recent innovations have seen the Raspberry Pi 400 which embeds a Pi into a keyboard as a low-cost personal computer and an RP2040 microcontroller featuring a dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processor with 264KB internal RAM, support for up to 16MB of off-chip Flash and flexible I/O options includes I2C, SPI, programmable I/O (PIO).

The benefits of using a Raspberry Pi

There is a widespread list of benefits including extensive community written software, accessibility and versatility.

We asked our engineers to share their favourite things about Raspberry Pi, here are just a few.

  • A Great Community
  • Extensive community written software
  • Active support from developers on forums
  • Affordability
  • Accessibility
  • Documentation
  • Many examples of use
  • Widespread usage
  • Versatility (used in many varied projects)

The Great Community

They offer a great place to learn and teach for both hardware and software elements of projects. As well as a huge amount of community written code they also offer books and magazines. They are keen on sharing the knowledge that they have and making it easier for people to create the next great tech idea.

Accessibility

Without these devices being both accessible and relatively cost-effective to implement they would be far less globally effective in terms of their influence and usage. In addition, new products are continuously released to help their community.

Widespread usage

Devices are designed to be useful for many applications. This means they can used in many different areas and for tech products in many different sectors.

Should I use Raspberry Pi for product development?

We host refreshingly honest discovery calls to help you make the most out of your product development process. Many people come to us knowing they want to use Raspberry Pi devices as part of their project. However, if you aren’t sure yet we listen carefully to your end goals and we will help you assess if this is the right route for you.
